About Buxa Tiger Reserve



Buxa Tiger reserve has been a part of West Bengal wildlife.It was recognized as a national park only in the year 1992. It is situated on the Sinchula Range.It is placed in Alipurduar Court of Jalpaiguri District. There are about 70,000 to 80,000 migratory birds coming here for migration in every year. The scenery of this Reserve is very pleasuring to see. Animals found in the park include, the tiger, civet and red jungle fowl. The other name of Buxa Tiger Reserve is Buxa Fort. There are many kinds of mamals we can find. Such as: flagship species, there are plenty of Leopard, Fishing Cat, Leopard Cat, Jungle Cat, Indian Civet, Palm Civet, Wild Dogs, Malayan Gaint Squirrels, Mangooses, Asian Elephant, Gaur, Small Clawless Otter, Chital, Sambar, Barking Deer, Hog Deer, Wild Buffalo, 3 varieties of Pythons, Monitor Lizard. The best time to view these beautiful mamals is during October and April. The Buxa Duar fort here was used as a prison by the British because of its remoteness. Many freedom fighters were imprisoned here. It served as a refugee camp for Tibetans and Bangladeshis.
