Years back, the Chaitanya movement, a form of Hinduism, which was inspired by saint Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.Traditional music includes devotional as well as cultural songs. Rabindra Sangeet written and composed by Tagore, has Indian classical touch.The works of Satyajit Ray, Tapan Sinha, Mrinal Sen and Aparna Sen are notable in particular.

The Asiatic Society of Bengal, the best known Indian historical research body in the 19th century, is located in West Bengal Visva Bharati University, founded by Rabindranath Tagore in Santiniketan which was formerly a town but now a part of Bolpur town, is a very famous center for the study of Indology and International culture.
