Basanti Devi College started its journey in 1959 established by Government of West Bengal which is the first Government sponsored college in Kolkata. The college was named after Basanti Devi the first women to fight for the freedom of our country and she was the first lady to be imprisoned by British. Basanti Devi College is located in the heart of South Kolkata. Basanti Devi College 2011 Admissions Eligibility Criteria and Cut off Marks

For Honours Degree at Basanti Devi College the Candidates should have acquired a minimum of 50% in the aggregate and 45% marks in the subject at the previous qualifying examination or they should have got 55% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination. Candidates belongs to SC/ST have to obtain minimum of 40% marks in aggregate or 40% marks in the subject at the previous qualifying examinations.
