Subash Chandra Bose – The True Patriot.
Subash Chandra Bose was an Indian Revolutionary who took up the challenge of rising India into the light of Freedom. He created a National army against the Britishers with the prisoners of the World War II naming it The Azad Hind Fauj. He was one of the most Prominent leaders in the Indian National movement and is a legendary Hero even today. He is even the founder of a Political party named Forward Bloc which is still a minor party in Bengal.
Early Life of Subash Chandra Bose
Subash Chandra Bose was born in a Bengali Kayasth family on the 23rd of January, 1897 in Cuttack. His parents were Janakinath Bose and Prabhavati Devi and. He was the 9th child in the family out of 14. Studying in an Anglo school in Cuttack he shifted to Ravenshaw Collegiate School after his 6th Standard. It was after that he went to Presidency College from where he was expelled for his assault on a professor for the latter's anti- India statements. It was after that he took admission in the Scottish Church College and topped the matriculation examination with Philosophy in 1911. Later he went to Fitzwilliam Hall of the University of Cambridge, and enrolled himself in the Cambridge University.Subash Chandra Bose's Role as a Freedom Fighter
Owing to a high score in the civil service examination, he almost got an immediate appointment. It was then that he took his first step as a revolutionary. He resigned his office on the words that "best way to end a government is to withdraw from it". It was during that time only that the Amritsar massacre happened. Immediately returning to India he started writing for the newspaper Swaraj and took up the charge of the Bengal Provincial Congress Committee. Later he again became the general secretary of the Congress party and worked with Jawaharlal Nehru for Independence. He was even arrested a number of times. Once when he was under the British surveillance at his house in Kolkata, He escaped with the help of his nephew Sisir.K.Bose and fled off to Peshwar. On 26th January 1941 he began his journey to Russia through Afghanistan. When the Britishers heard about Bose' escape, they ordered their agents to assassinate Bose. He escaped as a Pashtun insurance agent ("Ziauddin") and made his way to Germany. It was in here that he founded his army Azad Hind Fauj with 4500 soldiers of war. His speech was broadcasted on the Azad Hind Radio where he inspired thousands of Indians to join in the struggle for Independence along with him. His most famous quote was "Give me blood and I will give you Freedom". He proceeded with the Indian National Army to the frontiers of Manipur where he was stopped by the British forces. It was after that Bose had to retire. In a speech by the Azad Hind Fauj Radio he addressed Mahatma Gandhi as the "Father of the Nation" and it was from here that he received this name.Subash Chandra Bose Death and Disappearance
Subash Chandra Bose is alleged to have died in a plane crash in Taihoku, Taiwan, on the 18th of August 1945. The lack of a body has led to many theories of his possible survival. Some claim that Bose actually died later in Siberia, while in soviet captivity.
The Indian Government set up several committees to probe into this matter. The Inquiry Commission under Justice Mukherjee obtained information from the Taiwanese government that no plane carrying Bose crashed in Taiwan on 18th August 1945. The mystery of Bose's death is still unknown.
