Jadavpur University:
Jadavpur University is a top most educational institute in India. It has its two distinct campuses, one is at Jadavpur and the other is at Bidhan Nagar. These two campusses covers an area of 58 acers and 26 acers respectively. Jadavpur University was established on 24th December, 1955. The campus of Bidhan Nagar consists of five Engineering Departments and a large cricket ground which is under the Cricket Association of Bengal. The Governor of the state of West Bengal is the ex-official chancellor of this University. Some specialized institutes are affiliated to Jadavpur University, are includes Jadavpur Vidyapith college of Education, Institute of Business management. Getting admission in JU is highly competitive and mainly for Engineering courses. Upgraduate students and post graduate students are admitted through WBJEE and GATE respectively. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has given the highest grade to the University with "five star" status. Nandalal Bose, the key member of the Bengal school of art has designed the Logo of this University. Recently in 26th October, 2010 Thia Institute announced to launch a publication house named Jadavpur University press. The academics of Jadavpur University offers faculties mainly in three departments that is Arts, Engineering and Technology and Science.
The faculty of Arts consists of 12 departments including Bengali Department, Comparative Literature Department, Economics Department, English Department, Department of Film Studies, Department of History, Department of International Relation, Department of Library and information Science, Department of philosophy, Department of Physical Education, Department of sanskrit and Department of Sociology. There are 16 departments in Engineering and technology including Department of Architecture, Department of Chemical Engineering , Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Computer science, Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Pharmaceuttical Technology, Department of Power Engineering, Department of Production Engineering, Department of Printing Technology, and Department of Construction Engineering.
After the establishment of this University, the Science Department was created in 1956 containing 6 departments such as Department of Chemistry, Department of Physics, Department of Mathematics, Department of Geological Science, Department of Instrumentation Science and the Department of Life Science and Bio-Technology. Some notable personalities like Amrtya Sen, Shankha Ghosh, Buddhadev Bose are the faculty members of Jadavpur University.
