Visva-Bharati University:

Visva-Bharati University has got its University status in the May 1951. The great legend Rabindranath Tagore found this University in the district of Birbhum about 160 km away from Kolkata. It is refered as the Central University for research and teaching in India. To describe the meaning of 'communion of the world with India' founder of this University Poet Rabindranath Tagore called this University 'Visva Bharati'. The year 1863 says its history when Maharshi Debendranath Tagore established ab ashram named Brahmacharya Ashram. Rabindranath Tagore also the first establisher of co-educational school inside this ashram in 1901 named Patha Bhavana. For the first time in 1921 began this University with the Nobel prize money which he has got for his book of poem 'Gitanjali' and he was the first Upacharya of this University. After his a member of Tagore family Indira Chaudhurani also played the role for Upacharya. The adminstration of this University is very beautifull as Paridarshaka as visitor, Acharya as Chancellor, and the Upacharya as Vice Chancellor. The president of India and Governeor of West Bengal appoints the Upacharya and Pradhan respectively.Santiniketan and Sriniketan are cotaining the two campuses of Visva-Bharati University.

Visva-Bharati University consists of several institution and colleges includes Vidya Bhavan is the Institute of Humanities, Shiksha Bhavan is the Institute of Science, Pali Shiksha Bhavan becoming to the Institute of Agricultural Sciences and Binaya Bhavan is the Institute of Education. This University also manages the Rabinda Bhavan, residence of Rabindranath Tagore. Four schools includes Partha Bhavan, Siksha Satra and Shiksha sadan two elementary and secondary schools also managed by this University. Bengal Institute of Technology and Management(BITM, Santiniketan) also comes under Visva- Bharati University. Visva-Bharati University offers courses to the students like Pre Degree Course, Foreign Casual Course , Bridge Course , Certificate Courses , Diploma Courses, Bachelor Degree Courses , Master Degree Courses and Doctoral and Post doctoral level courses.
