It was earlier known as Beerkul and was discovered by british in the 18th century . It was discovered at the time of Warren Hasting. It was also known as "Brighton of the East". The place Digha is very popular for its beaches and attracts a number of tourists all over the year.

How to reach Digha


By Road
A number of bus services are available from Kolkata to Digha. These include
CSTC buses and Luxury buses. You will also find buses to Digha from popular bus stands and thus transport is not a matter of concern while visiting Digha.It will take about five hours to reach the place from Howrah.
By Rail
You can reach Digha by train from Howrah as well as Kharagpur. There are two trains from Howrah and one from Kharagpur(weekly) for Digha. It will take 4 hours to reach Digha from Howrah by train.

In my opinion the best time to visit Digha is from November to March as the temperature is very favorable during these months here.

There are a number of tourist attractions present at Digha. The most popular tourist place is flat hard beach. It is one of the widest beaches in the world and attracts a number of tourists throughout the year. The sea is really very long and you can enjoy walk over the sea with too much peace.
You can also enjoy sunset at the beach which is very much popular among the people. The sunset is one of the most worth looking scenes in Digha. You can also enjoy swimming at this place and thus it is too much fun being here.

New Digha
The most widely visited place is the New Digha which is just an extension of the Digha. There is a science center present at this place. The science center is really very old and was established by National Council of Science Museum. At this place you will find a number of science projects available that explain various principles of science. There is also a park present at the center which represents Jurassic Age. A lake is also present near the center that is called as Amravati Lake. You can take the fun of boat riding at this place. Moreover a snake farm is also present near the place where you can find a variety of snakes.

Junput Beach Resort, Digha
A beautiful resort called the Junput Beach Resort is located just 40 km away from Digha. There you can look at beautiful sea view. Moreover cashew trees present at the sides of the sea also increase the charm of the place. State Government Fisheries Department also conducts research activities at Junput Beach Resort, Digha.

Shankarpur beach at Digha
Another beautiful sea beach resort locted near to Digha is the Shankarpur beach. It is located at 8 km from Digha. A number of casuarinas trees are present at this place which make this place really beautiful. You can also visit Fishing Harbour Project.

Chandaneswar Temple at Digha
Chandaneswar is located 8km from Digha. It is very old and was earlier known as Shiva Temple.Some more temples that are located near to the Digha are Lankeswari Temple and Kapal Kundala Temple. These temples have a lot of religious value among the people.
