Bardhaman District occupies an huge area of 7024 sq km, with an approximate population of 6,895,514 . Boundry for the district consists of the Birbhum and the Murshidabad districts on the east by the Nadia District, by the Hooghly District on the southeast, by the Bankura and the Purulia districts on the southwest and by the state of Jharkhand on the northwest surrounding this district on the north region. Bardhaman District has a great importance in case of both technologically and agriculturally in West Bengal. The eastern region of the Bardhaman district is developed by the alluvial earth species of the river Bhaghirathi which is a minor stream of the river Ganga. It is refered as one of the most fruitful agricultural region in whole West Bengal. Moreover the western region of the district including Asansol, is very popular for coal and other mineral resources. This part is heavily industrialised having a range of factories based upon iron and steel processing, including many cement factories also. The towns of Durgapur, Burnpur, and Kulti placed in the western part of the district consists of many power plants here.

As Bardhaman was the land of Muslim rulers and the British Raj, we can consider the historical importance of this place. Several tombs and dargas represent the best examples of Muslim Culture with nearby the Hindu culture prevalent in the place. This place is full of historical scluptures like Pirbaharam Shikiha, a quality tomb of Sher Afgan on behalf of Akbar the great and Subedar of Bengal Municipality, Khwaja Anwar Berh- tomb of Khwaja Anwar, a great Mughal Warrior as well as Shah Alam`s Darga an archeological creation by Subedar Murshid kuli Khan in 18th century etc. These shows the religious & cultural decoration of the Muslim civilization that inhabited ago the region.

Hindu Civilization has also evidently signified by the temples of the Bardhaman district. Babladihi is a famous temple of lord Shiva, whose major attraction is the architectural trappings spreaded over the temple walls. Tourist can observe the superb representation of the Pala art. Another temple namely Siddheswari Temple is also very famous for its Terracotta works. Pattern of this temple is the major attraction here.

Another gigantic attrraction established by Brajakishori is the Baikunthanath Siva temple which is renowned for its terracotta art. Shyamarupa Temple also contains a great importance for its antiq design. Here tourist can observe the 10-armed idol of Shyamarupa which signifies that goddess Durga is 10-armed. Icchai Ghosh Temple & Rarheswar temple also attracts visitors for their architectural works throughout the year.
