A weekend at Bakkhali
Bakkhali is a seaside resort located in the south 24 parganas district of west bengal. It is a long and sandy beach that is lapped by the seawaves from the Bay of Bengal and flanked by dense casurina groves. The calm and serene beauty of this beach is an easy escape from the hectic daily schedule of city life. If you want to spend time with yourself or your near and dear ones or if you want to rediscover yourself then Bakkhali is the ideal place to visit.
Bakkhali is situated 130km away from kolkata. Far away from the traffic, noise and chaos of city life you will find rows of dense fern trees, water all around and seashore. Everything all around is very calm and quiet. Sitting under colourful umbrellas and sipping into your favourite drinks you will notice the change in colour of sand, a little away crabs coming out and going into their holes. These are really nice views.
If you walk along the beach by keeping the fern trees on one side you will reach Banbibi Mandir in Amaravati village. Apart from Devi Bishhalakhsmi one will find here mangrove forest. Near the busstand there is Deer Park, Crocodile-Tortoise Sanctuary.
2km away from Bakkhali is Frasergunj. Once upon a time the place was known as Narayantala. One will find here plenty of fishing boats sailing across the sea. There are motor boats also. You can visit Jammu Island riding on motor boat which is situated south-west of Bakkhali. It will take nearabout 45 mins to reach Jammu Island by motorboat.
Next destination is Henry Island. Here also the seabeach is very calm and quiet and also very beautiful. Added pleasure - the wide variety of fish that wil be served on your plate as per your request.
How to go :
From Sealdah local trains are available upto Namkhana. From Namkhana you will get a van rickshaw to reach the place from where you need to cross a narrow creek in a small boat. Then from the busstand one can get buses for Bakkhali.
Bus services are there from Dharmatala to Bakkhali.
