A terrible train accident at Fulia, Shantipur a few hours back snatched away a life and wounded nearly fifty. The name of the dead person in Fulia train accident is Mr Purnendu Mondal who was an employee of the Eastern Railways. The killed person in Shantipur rail accident, Mr Purnendu Mondal, was the gatekeeper of a nearby railway crossing and was returning home after his duty, when the unfortunate run-over took away his life.
The train accident at Fulia, Shantipur, happened due to a head on collision, as has been reported by our news correspondents. One of the drivers has been absconded and the other has been admitted in the Ranaghat State Hospital who was later shifted to B. R. Singh hospital seriously wounded. Initially the sources published a list of 27 injured out of which 6 were at Ranaghat hospital and 21 at Shantipur hospital.
Update: Just now our news correspondent reported that those out of 21 injured at Shantipur hospital, all are having simple injury, but one of them is shifted to B.R.Singh hospital and 6 injured admitted at Ranaghat hospital were also sent to B.R.Singh hospital. All six injured at Ranaghat hospital were having simple injury but one Sumitra Sarkar from Agarpara was in severe pain with injury on left hip.
The Rail Ministry has announced an ex gratia payment of Rs. 10000 for those who have been minimally injured, Rs. 50000 for those who are more seriously injured and Rs. 15000 for seriously injured people. It has been reported that the conditions of some of the injured persons are not highly hopeful and the death toll, unfortunately, may rise.
