Poha is one of the easiest and special breakfast dishes that is most famous and loved among the people in Madhya Pradesh. It is also known as kandhe pohe in Maharashtra and is among their favourites too.

Poha is something which can not only be prepared very easily and quickly but also tastes superb if served properly with poha masala, chopped onions and lemon.

Ingredients required – Recipe of Poha


The most essential thing here is an ingredient called poha which is a rice product. The name of the recipe itself has been kept on the name of the main ingredient. This recipe would serve 4 people.
List of ingredients:

  1. 250 g Poha

  2. 2 small Onions - chopped

  3. 1 Potato - chopped

  4. Green Peas

  5. Green Chillies

  6. Fresh Coriander leave

  7. 10 – 15 Curry leaves

  8. Some Roasted Peanuts

  9. Turmeric powder

  10. 1/2 teaspoon Cumin seeds(jeera)

  11. 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds(rai) - optional

  12. Salt to taste

  13. 1/2 teaspoon Sugar

  14. Lemon cut in pieces


Preparing Poha – Recipe of Poha


Heat some oil in a swallow vessel. Splutter mustard seeds, cumin seeds and curry leaves. Fry the chopped/sliced onions in the oil. When the onions turn pinkish, put the chopped potatoes and peas in it. Let the vegetables get cooked. Add green chillies and chopped coriander leaves too.

Now wash the poha in a big sieve so as to drain all the water. Put turmeric powder and salt on it and keep it aside. Thesre are different varieties of poha's available in the market. You should carefully choose one which is neither too soft nor thin and nor too hard. The wet poha will get soaked and would become soft too. You can check it by trying to press with your nail tips.

Now add the soaked poha to the vegetables. And cook it on low flame. Mix the turmeric and salt in the poha well so that the colour changes to yellow. Now add poha masala (optional) and garnish it with chopped onions and coriander leaves. Serve it hot.
