The temple of Maa Tarini at Ghatagon, Kenojhar is very famous throughout the world. People from various states and countries visit to Maa Tarini to get blessings from Her. Everyday more than 15,000 coconuts has been offered to Maa, which were received from Her devotees daily. The famous festivals of Maa Tarini are on: Makara Sankranti (Mid of January), Maha Visubha Sankranti (Mid of April), and Raja Sankranti (Mid of June) every year. On these days, devotees from every corner of India comes to offer.

As per the mythological tales, the King Keonjhar Govinda Bhanja went to Kanchi with Gajapati Maharaja and brought the idol of Maa Tarini. However on the way to Keonjhar at Ghatagaon, due to some annoyance the King looked behind. Due to which Maa stopped at Ghatagaon and worshipped there only. Maa Tarini is being worshipped by a tribal creed (Dehuri) in the temple; not by any Brahmins.

Sitabinji at Keonjhar, Odisha


Sitabinji is situated aside a river Sita which flows 30km far from Keonjhar, Odisha. It is a historical cum mythological place where Goddess Sita with Luv and Kush were been worshipped. Apart from that it is a centre of tribals, where various ancient ornaments, weapons, stone arts were also found. There is a big rock art of King's pageant situated at Sitabanji of Keonjhar.

Khandadhara waterfalls at Keonjhar, Odisha


Khandadhara is a waterfalls situated at 60km from Keonjhar. The water falls from a height of 500ft which appears as a sword; due to which it was called as Khandadhar (or sword shaped). It is a beautiful tourist place as others in Keonjhar.

Sanaghaghra waterfalls are situated at nearby by Keonjhar, just 6km away. It is a beautiful place compiled with forests and natural beauties. The water falls from a height of 100ft looks very attractive. Similarly Badaghaghra waterfalls are located next to sanaghaghra; where the water falls from a height of 200ft. Every year people comes here to make feast and picnic. Both are famous waterfalls of Odisha.

Gonasika tourist place at Keonjhar, Odisha.


Gonasika a place of collective forests, hills and other natural resources. It is one of the beautiful tourist spots in Keonjhar district of Odisha. Gonasika is the place where river Baitarani begins. There is a big rock which looks as a head of cow and the river Baitarani flows from the two holes of that rock that looks as two nasals of a cow. Therefore, the place was called so Go-Nasika (cow's nasals). After a distance, the water source flows beneath the earth and again appears in a place, which is called as Gupta-Ganga. The other serenic spot nearby Gonasika is Bramheswar temple.
