Hayagriva Madhava Temple was built by King Raghudeva Narayan in 1583. So it is more than 500 years temple. Many people tell that this temple was built by King of Pala in 6th century. This temple is made with stone and represents the image of Hayagriva Madhava.

Why Hajo is Holy for Buddhist ?


Hayagriva Madhav Temple is also a holy place for the Buddhists because they believe that in this temple Lord Buddha attained Nirvana. Now you can see that Lord Bishnu is worshipped there as his Man Lion Incarnation. You may know that elephants are very much liked by Assamese people so in the body of temple you can see the rows of elephants. A pond named Madhav Pukhuri is located near Hayagriva Madhav Temple. In this pond many festivals are observed by the Assamese people. Doul, Janmastami and Bihu are some famous festivals from them. Through it is a holy place for the Buddhist, they come to these festivals observed by Hindus.
