Tezpur College is one of the premier colleges in Assam located in Sonitpur district by the north bank of Bramhaputra river in Tezpur. Tezpur College is affiliated to Tezpur University and has been accredited by NAAC. Tezpur college is a single faculty college and it provides only B.A. programme. conducted in two shifts.
History of Tezpur college, Tezpur, Assam
The Tezpur college of arts was established in 1965 and since then it has been imparting higher education to the students in Assam and other neighbouring states including Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh etc. The college was brought under the Deficit grants-in-aid system under Government of Assam which provides salary grant to the college. The college has been showing brilliant performance in academic as well as extra-curricular activities. The college provides only Arts steam and offers only B.A. (major) programme. There are nine departments in the college which includes-, Assamese, Bengali, Economics, Education, English, Geography, History, Philosophy, Political Science and Commerce departments. Recently however commerce stream has also started at the undergraduate level.
At present there are around 40 well qualified teaching staff in the college providing knowledge and guidance to the various students of Tezpur College.
The college has introduced many short term vocational and value addition courses aimed at generating more employment opportunities in the region. The library is also well equipped and further plans are being taken to modernize it through computerization and automation.
