Chirang district of Assam


Chirang district is one of the 27 districts of Assam state of North East India. The district falls under the Boroland Teritorial area. It is about 220 kilometers away from the state capital. Here are some important information about the district.

Chirang district of Assam state of North East India is one of the four district of BTC area of the state. On 4th June 2004 it was declared as a separate district. The district is located in the north-eastern Himalayan sub-region of India and is situated in the north-west side of Assam. It was carved out of Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon and Barpeta district. The district Headquarter is Kajalgaon. It is 220 kilometers away from the state capital. There are two Sub-Divisions in the district namely Kajalgaon Sadar Sub-Division and Bijni Civil Sub-Division. The district is bounded by Bhutan on the north, by Bongaigaon district and a part of Kokrajhar district on the south, Baksa district and part of Barpeta district on the east and Kokrajhar district on the west.

It falls under Lower Brahmaputra Valley Agro-Climatic Zone. It enjoys sub-tropical climate with hot and humid summer followed by cold winter. The average annual rainfall of the place is about 1900 mm per annum. It receives maximum rainfall during the months of June and September. The maximum temperature of the place varies from 33degree Celsius to 38 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature varies from 9 to 10 degree Celsius.

According to the 2011 census Chirang district has a population of 481,818.It is the second least populous district in the state, after Dima Hasao. The density of population in the district is 244 inhabitants per square kilometre (630 /sq mi). Its population growth rate over the decade 2001-2011 was 11.26 % with a sex ratio of 969 females for every 1000 males. The literacy rate is 64.71 %.
