Maharana Pratap Sagar also known as Pong Dam is the highest earthfill dam of India.. It is situated across Beas river. It is situated in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. It is situated around Shiwalik Hills of Kangra district.

How to reach


The nearest Railway Station to the project is Mukerian 30 km and Pathankot 32 km.
The reservoir is connected by a good network of roads to major cities in Himachal and Punjab.

History


Pong Dam lake was declared a Ramsar Wetland Site on account of its rich waterflow diversity for conservation and sustainable use of wet land.

A wide variety of commercially viable fishes of 5 families such as Catla, Mirror carps, Singhara etc are recorded in the Pong dam reservoir.

The reservoir was declared as a bird sanctuary in the year 1983.
