Here we are talking about the Lakes of the Himachal Pradesh which are present in the Chamba district. There are basically three famous lakes are present in the different parts which are, Dal Lake, Chamera Lake and Khajjiar Lake. All these are explaining in the article.

Lakes in Chamba district



Chamba is one of the one of the beautiful district of the Himachal Pradesh. This is basically famous for the hilly area, historical monuments and heavy snowfall in winter. Apart from these, this district is also famous for the Lakes, here in this district there is about three lakes are situated. This city is situated on the bank of the Ravi River. Here we are talking about the details information of these lakes, nearby places for wondering and how to reach these lakes.

Different Lakes in Chamba

There are basically three famous lakes which are Khajjiar Lake, Dal Lake and Chamera Lake. Chamera Lake is an artificial lake situated on the bank of the Ravi River, while remaining two lakes are natural lakes and one of the oldest and religious lakes of the state.

Dal Lake: Religious Lake in Mani Mahesh

This is one of the oldest lakes of the district which is situated on the top of mountains in the Mani Mahesh on the Bharmuar road. This place is basically famous for the Lord Shiva's; it is believed that during the ancient times they lived with his wife on these mountains. Here in this lake every year in the month of August or September there is Holy Mani Mahesh Journey held. This journey begins from the Chamba and end at this lakes. Peoples bathed in this lake and return back to the home. The peoples of this area said that when you bathed in this lake than you become Holy.

This lake totally covered with snow every time when you go except the corner. So when you visit this lakes, don't go in the middle because water is much cold that you can even die.

This lake is situated on the Bharmaur which is about 100 KM from the Chamba. There are so many buses are available for this place.

Khajjiar Lake: Biggest Natural Lake

This lake is one of the biggest lakes of the district which is situated in front of the temple of Naag Devta, who was the local God of these areas. This lake is situated in the middle of the ground. Old people of this area said that once peoples wants to destroy this lakes and they want to cricket stadium here, so they came with machine and absorb the water of this lakes than a snake (in local language Naag) with five head came and said you can't absorb the water of this lake because it is my birth place and now I am hear living. So after that this lakes become very popular and in the temple every year there is festival held in the memory of Naag Devata.

This lake is situated in the Khajjiar which is about 25 KM from the Chamba on Dalhousie road. You can easily reach this place by bus as well taxi.

This place is basically famous for the temples, Horse Riding, Balloon riding, boating in lake, Para Gliding, different statues of the God. Here 85 feet long statue of the Lord Shiva's are made which is polished with bronze solution.

Chamera Lake: Artificial Lake on the Ravi River

This is one of the recent lakes of the Chamba district was built about 15 years ago on the Ravi River. The main purpose of this lake is to generate the power supply for the peoples of Chamba district. On this lake there are about 2 to 3 NHPC (National Hydro Project Corporations) projects are currently working.
Here you can also enjoy the boating. This place is about 20 km from the Chamba on the Banikhet road. There is no bus service so you have to take the taxi or other transport vehicle.
