Chamba district is one of the famous districts of the state which is popular for the hill station, snow fall and festivals. International Minjar Fair and Suhi Mata festival are the two festival of the district which is celebrated in the city every year with great enthusiasm and happiness. Suhi Mata Festival 2014 stares from 11th April and which will be continues for the next three days.


History behind Suhi Festival
It is one of the historic and oldest festival of the district which is celebrated in the memory of daughter of King knows as Suhi. It is believed that in the 15th century there is no water resources in the district and peoples have to go for the water about 5 to 10 km. one day, in the late night king of district have a dream that if you sacrifice your own daughter then your peoples will gets the water. After that he sacrifices her own daughter on the hill and at the same time below the hill water will flow. So in her sacrifice this festival is celebrated every year.


Suhi Festival 2014
This year it will be started from the 11th April and will continue for the several days. This festival will be celebrated in the Suhi Temple which is situated on top of Madar Hill on the right side of TB hospital. In the opening ceremony idol of Suhi Mata is taken across the market and big jaloos will also participates in which so many local deities have been taken across the market.

So when you visit to see this festival then you can also visit other places which are very popular and very close to this place. You can also visit the Chanudi Mata Temple, Lakshmi Narayan Temple, Bhuri Singh Museum, Rang Mahal and Millennium gate. These are the some of the historical monuments of the district which you can see in the Chamba district. You can also enjoy the Minjar Festival which is celebrated in the month of July-August every year.


How to visit
This festival is celebrated in the Suhi temple which is about 1km from the bus stand; you can easily reach this district by bus as well as taxi. There are so many buses are available for this place from the different parts of the state. When you visit this place then always wear or bring warm clothes with yourself.
