Dubare Elephant Camp in Madikeri


Dubare Elephant Camp is situated near Madikeri of Kodagu district in Karnataka, around 150 elephants were housed here in different camps, this place is also having a thick forest area whereby one can see few wild animals and rare species of birds.

This camp is at Madikeri in Kodagu district of Karnataka, this place is a typical spot as there are no accessible road but can be accessible only through a boat as Dubare Elephant Camp I on the other side of the river.

This place has its own historical value as more than 150 elephants has been kept in various camps managed by the Forest Department of Karnataka, whereby the elephants have used for the Dussera purpose.

Around 10 cottages were available here at this place with attached bathroom, but all cottages were available here without electricity as this camp has been in remote place the electricity facility is yet to reach this place, but in the morning and in nights power will be supplied through the help of generators.

Wildlife at Dubare Elephant Camp


As the forest area is very dense hence it houses many wild animals and a bunch of birds, as the most seen animal here is Asian Elephants and also other animals like Sambhar and spotted deer, even many Indian Bison will also be seen with Gaurs and Bears. As this camp is surrounded by the river many crocodiles can also be seen, the river which flows here is Kaveri, the birdlife here is an feast to the eyes as the likes of Patridges, Kingfishers and many Woodpeckers are also seen here.

The weather ideally remains most of the times pleasant almost through the year, but in monsoons which starts from the month of June and this season it is very difficult to visit this place as heavy rains lash out, whereas post monsoon like in the month of September and March is most ideal time to visit this place.

The weather generally remains pleasant round the year. Monsoon begins in June and rain continues to lash out in heavy torrents until mid-September. The post-monsoon season, between mid-September and March, is the favourable time to visit when the nature starts to sparkle with lush greenery.

Dubare Elephant Camp – How to reach


This camp is approximately around 240 km from Bangalore, has to pass through Ramanagaram which is around 49 km from Bangalore and on the way to Mysore through Mandya, take a Mysore by-pass road towards Hunsur and after crossing Hunsur which is 44 km away from Mysore, take right deviation towards Kushalanagar the same road leads to this Dubare Elephant Camp.

Lot of package tours are conducted by many travel agencies from major cities from Karnataka, under the package tours other activities includes fishing, rafting and trekking under their supervision, but without visiting Dubare Elephant Camp, the tour of Kodagu is incomplete.
