Information about Census of India 2011 in Karnataka
Conducting Census is an gigantic task as the Ist Phase of Census – House listing Operations needs to collect the entire information on housing and households, its amenities, more importantly socio-economic and general details of citizens, this process is launched on 15th of April, 2010.
The Census of India 2011 in Karnataka has involved a manpower of around 1,10,000 officials which also includes enumerators as said earlier the housing data only will be collected in the first phase of Census which started on 15th of April and will continue till 1st of June, 2010, in all around 35 questions may have to be answered by the residents.
The 2nd Phase of Census of India 2011 in Karnataka will take place from February 28 in 2011 and will end on the midnight of February 28th, 2011.

In Karnataka the Census of 2011 will be held 30 districts which consists of 176 taluks, 29,430 villages, 220 statutory towns, 127 Census towns and also 22 Urban Agglomerations.
In each district the Deputy Commissioner himself is called as Principal Census Officer and under him there will be around 17,464 Supervisors and 1,03,254 school teachers and other officials of same grade will be engaged as Enumerators and each Enumerator is assigned to collect data from 120 to 150 houses during the enumeration.
According to an Government Notification each Enumerator and Supervisor will get Rs.5,500 where as it was Rs.2,000/- in the previous Census.

What is National Population Registry [NPR]
The National Population Registry [NPR] is an comprehensive database of identities, which in turn will help the government to target the benefits and services under various schemes or programmes, improvement of planning and also helps the country from security point of view and this is the first time the NPR is about to be prepared.
Data to be collected for National Population Register [NPR]
The data for NPR is also collected along with the Enumeration data from April 15th to June 1st, there are around 15 questions to be asked for the sake of NPR, they are :

For the purpose of NPR & UID even photographs and fingerprints also will be collected in the due course, it will cover all the persons above the age of 15 years to help biometric national database.

The data so collected is much helpful for various analysis and more prominence given to the likes of administrative divisions, population, economic activity, socio-cultural aspects, migration, disability, languages and mother tongues, households population, area profile of India, its states & districts, village directory, list of towns with population and other Census reference tables.
Process involved in conducting Census of 2011 in Karnataka
The Enumerators will visit each and every household and will gather all the required particulars as mentioned above in the form of Census Schedules. The information collected is strictly confidential, under certain laws the Census details cannot be disclosed to the court of law also.
As soon as the Enumerators completes the field work, the filled in Census Schedules will be converted to computer data with the help of data processing centres, as these data centres are situated in 15 major cities in India.
The data transfer from schedules to computer data will be done through using the most sophisticated software called Intelligent Character Recognition Software [ICR], this technology is in practice at Census since 2001, this process is the benchmark around the universe. This process includes the scanning of Schedules extracting data automatically with the help of software, this revolutionary process has helped to feed voluminous data within a short time which in turn will save not only time but manal labour also along with the cost.
What to do if a house is not covered?
The immediate designated officer in the area is Tahsildar or the Ward Officer, a person can also contact the Collector or Deputy Collector or District Magistrate of the concerned District, in certain places even e-mail facilities has been provided along with toll free number to air the grievances.
How data collected for NPR will help UID?
Most of the data collected in the NPR will taken directly by UIDAI authorities, after de-duplication, the UIDAI will issue a UID number and this number is part of NPR and the concerned NPR cards will have to bear this UID number.
The maintenance of the database of this NPR and subsequently updating the database is the responsibility of the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, India.
