Uttarakhand and something about it.


The culture of uttarakhand has its roots in pre-history and has passed though the millennia, assimilating the influences of the waves upon waves of settlers that have sought sanctuary in the people and lifestyle.

Uttarakhand, early also known as uttranchal. It is located in the northern part of India. It is the one of the most beautiful and enhancing region. Peoples also know this as a name of DEV BHUMI because of so many holy Hindu temples and founded throughout the state, some of which are most spiritual and auspicious of pilgrimage and worship. It is also known for its natural beauty and sceneries of Himalayas, the terai and the bhabhar, the states that are covered with Himalayas. Nature has endowed this land with so much beauty and spiritual bliss. Ganga, yamuna and scores of other rivers originate in uttarakhand. Among them ganga is the most holy and most prominent as she represents the soul of India- Her rich culture, history and civilization.
In January 2007, the name of the state was officiall changed from uttaranchal to uttarakhand. Its capital is Dehradun, Which is also a famous and a big region. The high court of this state is in Nanital. The state also has big-dam projects, controversial and often criticized in India, such as the very large tehri dam on the bhagirati rivers.

There are 17 destricts in uttarakhand are grouped into two divisions:
1) Kumaon
2) Garhwal

• The kumaon division includes 8 districts:
1) Almora
2) Ranikhet
3) Bhageshwar
4) Champawat
5) Nanital
6) Pithoragarh
7) Didihat
8) Udham singh nagar
• The Garhwal division includes nine districts.
1) Dehradun
2) Haridwar
3) Tehri garhwal
4) Uttarkashi
5) Yamnotri
6) Chamoli
7) Pauri Garhwal
8) Rudraprayag
9) Kotdwar

The garhwali people are the group of peoples who primarily live in the garhwal Himalayas of the north-western Indian state of uttarakhand. Any person who has lives in and has a garhwali heritage is called a garhwali. They uses garhwali language for conversation.
