Different Major Rivers in Maharashtra


There are different rivers in Maharashtra, but Three of them are major rivers which are Godavari, Krishna and Tapti. These are the lifeline of Maharashtra. They covers maximum fertile land of Maharashtra.

The Rivers in Maharashtra divide the whole region into different parts. Godavari, Krishna and Tapti (Tapi) are the major rivers. These rivers are mainly parts of Maharashtra. These are the lifeline of Maharashtra. Lets see the different Co-rivers of these major rivers in Maharashtra.

Godavari river :


This is one of the main river of Maharashtra as well as of central India. Which originates from Western ghats Timbakeshwar in Nashik district and flowing eastwardly across the Deccan plateau through the state of Maharashtra. It runs from western to southern India. It is India's second largest river after the great Ganga. It is considered to be one of the big river basins in India. The river Godavari flows 1,465 km to empty into the Bay of Bengal. The pravara, Indravati, Wainganga, Wardha, Pench, Kanhan and Panganga are the major tributaries of the river.

Tapti River :


Tapti River is a river in central India. It is one of the major rivers of Indian peninsular with a length of around 724 km. It is India's only third river which flows from east to west after the Narmada River and Mahi River. The river rises in the eastern Satpura Range of Southern Madhya Pradesh state, and flows westward, Madhya Pradesh's Nimar region, Maharashtra's Khandesh and to the south Gujarat before emptying in Gulf of the Cambay of the Arabian Sea. The major tributaries of Tapti Rivers are Purna, Girna, Panjhra, Vaghur, Bori, and Aner. These are the important rivers for Tapti Rivers.

Krishna River :


It is one of the important river of Maharashtra, as well as India. Krishna River rises at Mahabaleshwar near the Jor village district Satara, Maharashtra. It flows through the different regions of Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. Its delta is one of the most fertile regions in India. The main tributaries of the River is Ghataprabha, Malaprabha, Bhima, Tungbhadra.
