Scraped coconut - 1 cup
Green chillies - 4
Urad dal - 1 teaspoonful
Roased gram - 2 tablespoonful
Garlic - 1 pod
Oil - 1 tablespoonful
Tamarind - in small quantity
Asafoetida - a pinch
Curry leaves - a few
Red chilli - 1
Salt to taste.Method to make Tamil Recipe Coconut Chutney:
Grind together the coconut, green chillies, roasted gram, garlic, tamarind and salt.
Heat oil and add mustard and urad dal. When it crackles, add curry leaves, pinch of asafoetida and red chilli and pour over the rest of the chutney.
Chutney can be served watery or in semi solid form. A little tamarind and a pods of garlic are optional according to your taste.
