Ingredients for making Tamil Recipe Kothamalli-Pudina Biriyani

Basmati rice – 2 cups
Pudina – 1 cup
Kothamalli – 1 cup
Green chillies – 5
Grated coconut – ½ cup
Ginger-garlic paste – 2 tsp
Potato – 4
Cashewnuts – as required
Green peas – 1 cup
Onion – 2
Tomato - 2
Chilli powder – 2 tsp
Coriander powder – 3 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
Oil as required
Ghee – 3 tbsp
Brinji leaves as required
2 – 3 cloves
A piece of cinnamon
Salt to taste

Preparation of Tamil Recipe Kothamalli-Pudina Biriyani

Soak basmati rice in water for half an hour.

Chop the onions lengthwise and potato into cubes.

Add chillies, pudina, kothamalli and coconut in a mixer, add a little amount of water and grind it into a smooth paste.

Take ghee in a pressure pan add cloves, brinji leaves, cashews and cinnamon, add the chopped onions and sauté till transparent.

Next add the cubed potatoes and green peas and fry well.

Now add the ground kothamalli-pudina mixture, sauté for a while and then add the tomatoes.

When all the ingredients have blend well add the chilli powder, turmeric powder and coriander seed powder along with the required amount of salt.

Add some ghee and then add the soaked basmati rice and sauté well for 2 minutes.
Now add 3 cups of water and close the pressure pan with the lid.

Simmer the stove and allow it to stand for 12 to 14 minutes.

Open the lid after the pressure is released and mix the biriyani.

Now the Tamil Recipe Kothamalli-Pudina Biriyani is ready to be served. Tastes delicious when served hot with potato curry and Vengaya thayir pachadi/ Onion curd raitha.
