When Vibhisana saw the boy running , he chased him and pushed him with his hand . The changed in the the shape of Vinayaga lord making Vibhisna realize that he was lord Vinayaga. He apologized him and later on his memory the Temple was built.

People believe that Pallavas made the temple. Later the work of completion of the construction of Ucchi pillayar temple was performed by the Nayaks from Madurai Tamilnadu.
