Kamaraj as a political leader in Tamilnadu


Kamaraj (1903-1975)affectionately called as a karma verar done a lot for the upliftment of Taminnadu in all sector. Particularly in Education he contributed immensely which the schemes are still existing in our Education system. He implemented the first mid-day meal scheme in all school of Tamilnadu. Later he became the president of All India National congress.

His political career started from joining the Indian national congress. His guru satyamurthi also a parliamentarian to virudunagar area both leaded the party in Tamilnadu. Under the leadership of these two great people congress flourished and cherished in Tamilnadu state. Though he was low qualified as per the academic career but with his capacity of foreseen quality and intelligence, hard work he became the chief minister of the state on 13th April, 1954.

Many time he felt the very ill of not completing his school education. So, he wanted the children of Tamilnadu to continue till higher education. Under his ruling period, he brought many reforms in Indian education. He thought that the low attendance in the schools may lead to maximum dropouts in the future. So, he introduced the mid-day meal scheme in all schools. The scheme was devised only to improve the attendance of the school and to minimize the drop outs in the future. He made many villages self reliant in all aspects and promoted to a village of model to all other villages. He ordered every village must have at least a primary school. It is none other than Kamaraj who introduced free books, free uniforms to school children so that it may not become a obstacle for the study of children. The state progressed to maximum extent. The poverty was starting to decreasing. He made many remarkable changes over the import and export policies too.

Considering his contribution in the state politics and bringing congress to an apex position in the state politics. He was elected as a president of All India congress following the death of Jawaharlal Nehru during 1964. The party moved ahead over the advise of kamaraj. Due to slight, he breathed his last on 2nd october 1975. Though he was no more but his planning and schemes are still existing in India. May his soul rest in peace.
