The Christian Medical College in Vellore which is popularly known as CMC is one of the most important and very much famous hospitals in Tamil Nadu. The Christian Medical College is known as the best and large hospital in India. The Christian Medical College produced number of qualified doctors and continues to do the same. The college is visited by many patients from other country as it is has the well advanced machines for the treatment. The hospital and college campus is very vast and would be bit difficult for a person to reach the needed place without any proper guidelines. History of Christian Medical College (C.M.C) in Vellore
The history of the Christian Medical College starts before hundred years. The CMC hospital was first formed by the Christian missionaries from the foreign countries. The hospital took it birth as the women care centre in around 1900's. After twenty years the hospital grew little bigger and served the nearby villagers in Vellore. The Christian Medical College has seen many changes after the years of time and reached the present position. The hospital was started and cured the sick people for less cost. The main aim of the missionaries, to start this hospital was, to make the people to know about Jesus. It was a medium of preaching their gospel to the Indian people. As the hospital had served the people very much the fame for the hospital grew day by day.
It is in 1942 the medical college for women were opened by the missionaries. After five years from then in 1947 on wards the men were admitted in the college. During this period the Nursing College was also opened in the college campus. In 1950 the post graduate courses were also started in the college. For the first time in India in 1961 the first successful open heart surgery was done in this college hospital. The millstone passed by the college was in 1971. It was the first kidney transplant in India. It was done successfully by the doctors of CMC. The next great work was done in 1999. The first ever Liver transplantation was done successfully. The hospital is containing presently 5500 outpatients with many clinics.
The CMC hospital is located in the Vellore city. Many sick people visit the place. The college is located little away from the hospital. The Medical College is in a distance about seven kilometers away from the hospital. The college is built in the large area of 200 acres. The hostels for the students and other managing staffs are located in the college campus. The college campus has three major patients units. They are:
1. The Community Health Department (CHAD) for Physically Challenged
2. Mental Health Centre (MHC),

As the hospital was started by the Christian missionaries and looked after by them they give more importance to the spiritual life. There are daily mass in college life. The Christian worship is available in the hospital as well as in the college also. There are mass conducted at various timings. The mass timings in the hospital chapel are:

The candidates are selected for the admission through the entrance test, practical test and personal interview. The common entrance written tests are conducted in Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Mumbai, Pondy , Vellore and some the other important places in India. The places will be told at the time of the entrance exams. The entrance test is divided under two sections. The General test which includes the multiple choice questions taken from all the undergraduate or qualifying courses. The second type would be a special test which includes the multiple questions asked from their major subject / specialty areas.
The results of this entrance exam will be announced after some days of the examination. The entrance examination result will be published in the college web site. After having passed in the entrance exam the candidates will be called for the personal interviews by the college. The candidates who come for the personal interview in CMC should bring their health report. They also have to bring the X-ray of their chest which is taken recently. For the entire Medical and engineering the admission is done as for the norms of the medical and engineering councils of India. The admission is done through the entrance exam. The entrance exams are conducted every year to add the new students into the esteemed university. The admission is given for all without the discrimination on the basis of color, caste, religion and nations. The foreign students are also given chance to join the group. They also should have completed their mandatory rotating residential internship and got the full registration.
