Chennai Egmore Railway Station Maintenance Contract Details and Schedules


In order to maintain and make Chennai Egmore Railway Station to be clean all time round the clock the Railway Management have decided to separate the station into two different sections and gives its maintenance contract to private. According to the data there around 11 platform in Egmore Railway Station and previously the maintenance of above Platforms, Pathways, Toilets, VIP Rooms were given to private for a contract period of 3 years and before the contract the cleaning process was being carried out by Railway Department and as the signed contract is going to expire and ends up by January 2012 the Railway department has decided to recruit agents for its maintenance work and this time the Railway Department has decided to separate and assign its maintenance contract for two agents.

According the News and Rules given by the Railway Department the First Section consists of 1219 Meters Length from 1st to 6th Platform consisting of Trolley Point, Passenger waiting Room, VIP Waiting Room, Ticket Centers, Parcel Office, Food Court Section floors should be cleaned falls into this category of their maintenance agreement. Moreover the wall and floor in respective building should be cleaned daily and the respective maintenance people should take attention that there is no wastage on pathways. This time the Railway Department has defined certain new rules to its agent and according to it the agents are in a position to hold the latest cleaning equipment in addition to brushes and mops with separate colours Green and Yellow waste bins for degradable and non degradable wasted and all this equipment should be fire resistant.

The employers should work in 3 shifts with 20 members on 1st shift and 21 members on 2nd shift and with 14 members on 3rd shift and all the employed person should have completed 18 years and moreover the agents should produce Medical Fitness Certificate of the person being employed for the service work. The department has fixed 2 crores 18 lakhs as a 3 year maintenance cost. The Railway Department initially to start up with the service has decided to go only with section 1 maintenance work and later planned to release the News about maintenance agreement for section 2 of the station which starts from platform 7 to 11. Moreover the Railway Department feel with the separation of this station they would be in a position to keep the Railway Station clean round the clock and year.

Let wait and watch with their maintenance work and in my point of view even though the Railway Department takes these steps to keep the station Clean and Tidy the public as the passengers who visit the station should also try to follow certain measures to keep the station neat and clean.
