Human Rights Council (UNHRC) against war crimes of Sri Lanka - Political parties stand in Tamilnadu
The US resolution against Sri Lanka at a United National Human Rights Council (UNHRC) session in Geneva has brought all the political parties in Tamil Nadu in unison. The DMK former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi keeps a vigilant look over Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s attitude to support the US resolution on war crimes charges against Sri Lanka. Mr Karunanidhi has gone to the extent that his party “Would review its ties with the UPA if the Centre opposed the US resolution”.

Mr Karunanidhi was strong and loud to say, "The DMK will deem it as a betrayal of Tamils if the Centre does not support the resolution on Sri Lanka." As per the news reaching from NDTV "Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had also hinted that India would not support human right violations in Sri Lanka. However, sources had earlier told that the government has assured the DMK that it will consider the sentiments while voting in UN".
DMK's high level committee is understood that considering the Dr.Singh's word will cancel meet on Tuesday. Sri Lnaka has a repeated accusation of war crimes committed against the pro-independence Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam at its last phase. A thirty years war which ended with the defeat of the LTTE in May 2009. Around 40,000 Tamil civilians were brutally killed in the early five months of 2009.
In a directive of Mr. Ban Ki-moon United Nations Secretary-General, panel of experts appointed to study that the bulk of these deaths were due to the assault of Tamil civilians by government forces. In an endeavour to find out the veracity of war crime committed by Sri Lankan Army in the last phase of ethnic war, Ban Ki-moon UN Secretary General appointed a three member panel of experts in June 2010, comprising Yasmin Sooka (South Africa), Marzuki Darusman ( Indonesia), Chair; and Steven Ratner ( United States) and the official UN press release of June 22nd 2010, said with the following statement "The Secretary-General has appointed a panel of Experts that will advise him on the issue of accountability with regard to any alleged violations of international human rights and humanitarian law during the final stages of the conflict in Sri Lanka" and in accordance to the directives the panel examined in terms of "the modalities, applicable international standards and comparative experience with regard to accountability processes, taking into account the nature and scope of any alleged violations in Sri Lanka"Ban Ki-moon Visits Srilanka perceives large number of civilian causalities
Ban Ki Moon visited Sri Lanka in May 2009 after the closure of the war. He observed the war torn locations such as Mullivaaikkaal, where it was the "final phase of fighting occurred" On his return he told the media that the large number of civilian causalities, "as a large population had been trapped in a small area where intense fighting had taken place."Specific findings of the panel
The gross violations that the Sri Lankan military had used a were massive, sinister and pervasive shelling, resulting in colossal causing civilian fatal casualties as human wreckage. A place Vanni had suffered the heavy brunt of these kind.
More appallingly the issue was that the media were hushed up and muzzled, and were intimidated of dire consequences such as abduction of them through white vans, and to find way how to drive away them to disappear.
The Sri Lankan military lied to the civilian population that it would keep them in a safe place, and reassured them their safety of life, and encouraged to converge into places what they called as “Safe Zones", but shelled on them in large scale in three of such “Safe Zones". It was so arrogant that the Srilankan military used sham promises that it would cease heavy weapons against them, but it was proved wrong because the Lankan military killed the innocent Tamil children, women, and elderly in a ruthless manner in the same place what they duped as “Safe Zones" in a contradicting term.
Besides, the Sri Lankan military targeted the UN hub by opening fire, and prevented the food distribution lines, and they halted Red Cross ships in off shore which were near approaching to rescue the wounded, and their kith and kins. Despite the severe warning from notifications and the intelligence as well by the UN, Red Cross and others, the Lankan military continued atrocities and it was proved beyond doubt that most of the civilian casualties are by the atrocities of Sri Lankan army.
The Sri Lankan military did not consider whether the place hospital. It systematically bombered all these places from the front line. In a place called Vanni Sri Lankan military knowingly targeted hospitals by repeated attacks by mortars and artilleries. The Lankan government wantonly made short supplies of medicines, and essential commodities to the civilians and they deprived them of these basic things, and it added greatly to untold miseries.
The most heinous part of war tragedy is that from January to May 2009, the estimated killings were around 40,000 civilians which would include children, women and elderly civilians, who had no fault them to meet such gruesome death. The more sorrowful news is that those feared death, and tried to flee and escape from a vulnerable place known as conflict zone, the Lankan army instilled death on them in an inhuman act shelling bombs.
While screening for the Tamil tigers were on progress, no transparency was visible as a manifestation but they were executed women were raped indiscriminately more fittingly as a blanket permission.
All Internally Displaced Persons did not have any say and they were dumped in overcrowded camps, and t were deprived of the Basic Rights Amenities of Living. The conditions of the camps per se resulted in several deaths. In the name of interrogations, men and women were taken to faraway places, women being raped and men were tortured for no specific reason, and Sri Lanka stands for an answer to the Human Rights abuse at UNHRC in Geneva soon.
