How to book a complaint for robbery / dacoity in a running train?


In this article, I shall share the new arrangement made by the Railway Protection Force of Southern Railways for booking complaint about robbery / dacoity taking place in a running train. This is indeed a novel arrangement from Southern Railway to avoid hardships to the passengers who are unfortunate to be affected by such mis-happenings. Please read ahead.

If you happen to be a victim of any robbery / dacoity in a running train or if you have any other issues that are need to be attended to by the law enforcing authorities viz., the Railway Police or Railway Protection Force, now you can book a complaint about the same with the Railway Police personnel accompanying you in the same train. This is a new arrangement introduced by the Southern Railway.

Before such an arrangement, if a robbery / dacoity takes place in a running train, you will have to book a complaint with the jurisdictional Railway Police / Railway Protection Force where the train in which you are traveling was passing by. Because of this arrangement, many passengers were forced to cancel their travel in the midway.

To avoid such an inconvenience to the passengers, Southern Railways have now introduced a novel method through which now you can complain about such robbery / dacoity or any other unwanted happenings immediately to the Railway Police Personnel / Railway Protection Force Personnel who are actually traveling in the same train in which you are also traveling. The Railway Police / Railway Protection Force Personnel will acknowledge such complaints and will issue a receipt for having receiving such a complaint from you and will immediately act to solve your problem / issue. If you are unable to meet any of the Railway Police / Railway Protection Force Personnel who are traveling in the same train, then you can contact the mobile number 9962500500 and report about any such untoward happenings in the train.

How the complaint redressal system works? Will it be a success?


The complaint received from any of the passengers is sent to the jurisdictional Railway Police Station and the respective Railway Police Station prepares the F.I.R. or First Information Report and the same will be sent to the residential address of the complainant passenger. Then proper investigation will be carried on and further necessary action will be taken in the matter.

Even though the Railway Police / Railway Protection Force of Southern Railways have introduced such a facility, there is an element of doubt about the immediate action to be taken by the Police personnel. Also if many people try the given telephone number in the event of any emergency, can the capacity of the given number handle so many calls remains a big question. Also if a passenger wishes to prefer a complaint through SMS, can he or she furnish full details regarding complete residential address, the articles which were robbed etc. is also a million dollar question. A better arrangement would be to send a contingent of Railway Police Personnel in each train and they should also be empowered to register the complaint and issue F.I.R. on the spot.
