Tamil month Aadi is considered as auspicious by the people of Tamilnadu. There are a list of poojas and celebrations in this month of Aadi. One such auspicious day is the Adi Amavasya which is called as the New Moon day. This is considered as one of the darkest nights and it is believed that poojas and tarpanams performed in this day to the ancestors will be good. Though ne owes a lot to one loses his parents or ancestors their genes will be present in the body and so they will live with us. 
People in Tamilnadu believe that the dead people will always live with their loved ones and will help them to attain all the positive deeds. They will also protect the family from any ngative effects. This will be attained by performing poojas to the dead loved ones on this important day called Adi Amavasya.
