Recipe : How To Prepare Pakoda - Pakoda is the best tea time snack of south india


In this article i am explaining the receipe of prepare pakoda using rice starch instead of commonly used water. Pakoda is the snack for kids and for relatives on sudden visit to home. It is healthy when we use rice strach than normal water as we get lot of vitimains through it. The best part of the recipe is it can be made in a very less time.

Pakoda is the best tea time snack of south india. It is a best snack for kids after returning from school. It is also best to serve when any relatives or guests visit your house.

It can be used to munch while watching movies or television daily soaps.
It is also one of the best home made snack that can be done in a very short time. Its best to prepared in sudden or surprise arrival of relatives or friends to home

Preparation Time 15 mins

Ingredients to prepare pakoda with rice starch:


1. Rice starch – 25 ml

2.Besan flour- 1 glass

3 Onions – 2 to 3 in number, finely chopped

4 Red Chilli powder - 2 tbsp

5 Salt (as per taste)

6 Coriander Powder – 1 pinch

7.Ginger & Garlic paste – 1tbs (optional)

8 Curry leaves – 4-5 in number (optional)

9 Leafy vegetables like Spinach(Palak) - 1 number finely chopped(optional)

10. Oil (deep fry)

Note: Rice starch
Rice starch is the extract that we shell out while cooking rice. Its normally called as Ganji in telugu.

Preparation of Pakoda:


1.Take a bowl.

2.Chop the onions's finely .

3.Add Besan flour to it.

4.Add red chilli powder and salt to it as per taste.

5.Add ginger & garlic paste if required as it is optional, we can add this
paste if we want the pakoda's to be more spicy and tasty.

6.Add curry leaves if required as it is optional, if added, it adds taste to pakoda's.

7. Add spinach also if required as it is optional, Adding spinach to the pakoda's makes them not only tasty but also healthy.

8.Now mix all the ingredients well.

9.Now add the rice starch if available. If rice starch is not available readily add water to the mixture.

10.Now mix all the above ingredients to make a dough kind of thing.

11.Now take a frying pan, add oil to it.

12.Make the oil heat and then.

13.Put the Pakoda dough in small portions in the oil.

14.Fry them until golden brown.

15.Serve them using Tomato sauce or honey.

Note: If you want the pakoda to be crispy then fry them deeply until they turn brown. or else you can fry then until they turn yellowish red.

Hence the tasty and healthy pakoda is ready to serve.

These pakoda's can be served with Tea, Honey or Tomato sauce.

1.Rice starch is the water or thick liquid that we normally shwll out while cooking rice. This water has many vitamins and healthy for us.

2.If possible, do not shell out this water as the rice gets boiled in it, it has all the healthy contents what the rice has.

3.If you shell out the water of boiled rice , see that you use it in other ways

4.This water can be used to make a dough for chapathi's or roti's.

5.This can be used as meal for an Infant of 5 to 6 months old by adding a salt less than a pinch.

6.The rice starch can be used while preparing soups.

7.It can be had by any people of any age group by adding a pinch of salt to it, It is very healthy homemade soup early in the morning for breakfast.

8.You can add oats also to the rice starch with salt or sugar and have it for breakfasts and also as a night meal or dinner for people maintaining diet to reduce weight.
