We need to generate jobs through special events every summer

In Tamil Nadu, the month of May every year is very special. It is a very hot month when the hill stations like Kodaikanal and Ooty become red hot places, with millions flocking there, and prices of hotels going through the roof. Hundreds of drivers and conductors and tour operators are gainfully employed, as there is massive demand.

The respective State Governments need to open up employment opportunities for the students and the public through special events. This can be first done through special food festivals. Every State would have special food in several places. For example, the Mysore Masala Dosa is very famous in Mysore. So in the first week for example, in Tamil Nadu, there can be the Chettinadu cuisine. The second week can be the Madurai special. The third week can be the Kongu district special and so on. The special food should be prepared and served at very reasonable prices throughout the State and the economically poor students can be employed as volunteers, with a salary of Rs.250 per day, along with free food. This will help them pay their fees and so on. The State Government should identify local sponsors, such as the rich traders, NRI professionals, alumni of various educational institutions, and so on. The NRIs from USA and UK can also support through donations.

Then there is the "Fried Brinjal floating in Oil" is a special dish of both Tamil Nadu and AP and Telangana. This is done with slight variations in the preparation. If the YouTube channels can broadcast the actual preparations in Telugu and English, and also do the same on at least three private TV channels, through special sponsorships, along with live reports of the huge crowds that flock to the centers, well, this will itself be a big achievement, as the employment potential will not only go up, but the State can also have fun with some of the best recipes being showcased. I am also told that AP has many such recipes. It is essential that cultural events should also be organized in the month of summer, every year.

Similar events can be organized pan-India.

Government has to create employment opportunities for the people. This is a very important matter. Job creation requires some innovative ideas like one suggested by the author above.
Tourism is progressing in our country and there is job potential in that area. Food and catering is another prospective area where jobs can be generated. Today in our country what we require is more jobs and not few high remunerative ones. It does not matter even if the job is small. What is required is more number of jobs.

While it is true that tourists flock to cooler climes in the summer and families travel during this time due to vacations, why should such events be restricted to the summer?

Governments can, and do, organize events at various times of the year, except I think in the months of very heavy monsoon. You will see advertisements and other forms of marketing campaigns of book fairs in Delhi's famous Pragati Maidan, or a major flower festival in Odisha, or a food fest in J&K, etc. All these are occasions that do generate employment opportunities, and not just good business to those setting up stalls and scheduling cultural events during these times. Naturally, the general public also have a grand recreational time!

I want to add that today we are going through a severe unemployment situation in our country and frankly speaking what we require is a large number of small jobs rather than a few big ones. The irony today is that government jobs are very attractive and are giving a very high salary. This may appear to be surprising for some readers but if we really compare the salaries of Government employees with that of employees in private companies or unorganised sectors then we will feel the difference.
Over and above that government jobs are very safe and secure while in private companies the person can be asked to go home anytime depending on the market and business conditions in any country.
So Government should wherever possible create job opportunities by holding various fairs, activities, camps etc. Actually government should refrain from recruiting more and more people in Government departments because that increases the revenue outgo of the Government adversely. It should outsource the work except some important areas like judiciary and defence.
