This resource gives a description of my college, Bhavan’s Vivekananda College, Sainikpuri in Hyderabad. The college is fast emerging as one of the best institutes in Hyderabad as well as in India. An introduction to Bhavan's Vivekananda College, Sainikpuri


The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan institute was established in 1938 with the aim of preserving the ethics and values of our country by imparting quality education . Following the ideals of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, the Bhavan's Vivekananda College, Sainikpuri was established on the 2nd of August 1993.

bb1 The college had strength of only 131 students in the beginning. From then on, it has never looked back. Today the college can boast of being an institution where not only teaching and learning, but also the development of great citizens of our country is its hallmark.

The Princpal, Dr. Y. Ashok, has a teaching career spanning over 27 years. He has devoted himself to the task of instilling the ideals envisioned at the establishment of Bhavan's Vivekananda College. With a team of 96 faculty mambers, 46 support staff and 2591 students, he has ensured that Bhavan's remains at the top.

The Vice Princpal, Dr. P. Uma was appointed to the post in 2003. As the senoir most lecturer and a scholar of note, she has been a part of the institution right from its establishment.

Bhavan's Vivekananda College Campus


Set in a sprawling 50 acres, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Sainikpuri campus, which houses the Bhavan's Vivekananda College, Sainikpuri is surrounded by verdant greenery, providing the right ambience for intellectual pursuits. The college has a built up area of 1, 20,000 sq ft. This includes 45 spacious class rooms with comfortable seating arrangements, 29 well equipped laboratories, several rest rooms for students. Staff rooms have internet connections where the faculty can prepare its teaching schedule and enhance its teaching skills. It has 5 seminar halls catering to all activities like seminars, guest lectures and placements conducted on the campus.

It has a large open air auditorium, which accommodates nearly 2500 students.
To facilitate sports activities, the college has developed two football grounds, a cricket field, two volleyball courts, a basketball court, tracks for athletics and a room for table tennis and caroms.

The College has established a Gymnasium with state of the Art Gym equipment for the staff and students of the college. It has a multi work station gymnasium, motorized treadmill, semi commercial fitness machine, Olympic flat bench, Olympic incline and decline bench, weight lifting, power lifting and best physique equipment.

There are 280 systems of P-IV and Dual Core with Multimedia, 33 Printers (Laser Jet, Dot Matrix and color Inkjet), 12 LCD's, Backup facilities (UPS with Batteries). Generator facility, and Centralized office automation. The software used includes VB, Java, C++, Rational Tools, MSDN Subscription, Anti-Virus and Accounting Software. The computers are upgraded regularly.
  • In its pursuit of excellence, the college has always made it a point to disseminate information by the quickest mode, such as Internet and Intranet facilities.

  • From the year 2011, the college is able to provide unlimited and uninterrupted Internet access to all the departments on campus, which facilitates both faculty and students in all their ventures.

  • bb3 The college houses 2 libraries with a comprehensive knowledge base for both staff and students. Both, the college UG and PG Libraries stock all relevant and current material. The libraries are fully automated with internet facility. They have a large collection of 21,274 volumes, 94 journals and magazines both National and International, besides several Newspapers. The libraries have ample space permitting its users to either browse through material or do reference work.

    The College Cafeteria is where all the action is. Student's activities in the Cafeteria range from completing projects to sampling the dishes on offer. The Cafeteria is spacious and has 3 food counters which provide an array of tasty items. It provides a cool drinks fountain and 5 Aqua guard water

    Academic Achievements: The College has a strength of 2591 bright and gifted students. Our results have consistently crossed the 85% mark in UG courses and 90% and above in PG courses .For the year 2009-2010, the average pass percentage of UG courses is 90.50% and for the PG courses is 94.09%. This is the 8th year in succession, wherein the students have secured top marks at the university level.

    For the third year in succession a BCA student has secured the top rank in Osmania University and 9 out of 10 top ranks have been secured by Bhavanites. 39 out of the 47 students of the BCA course have secured Distinction and the remaining 8, First Division. Among the UG results, BCA tops the list with 100% results, followed by B.Com with 92.13%. Among the P.G. results M.Sc Micro Biology tops the list with 100% followed by M.B.A. with 93.64%.

    The college celebrated the 18th Annual Day in Feb. 2011. The Chief Guest Mr.J.M.Lyngdoh, Former Chief Election Commissioner of India, Guest of Honor Dr.Ch.Mohan Rao, Director, CCMB, graced the occasion. Also present were Justice Dr.Y.Bhaskar Rao, Chairman, BVB, Sainikpuri Kendra and Air Cmde NDN Bhaskara Rao, VSM Hon.Director, BVC,Sainikpuri.

    Dignitaries and the parents graced the occasion. The Principal Dr.Y.Ashok presented the Annual Report, outlining the activities and the achievements of the faculty, students and the support staff. He also made mention of the prestigious Padmashri Award Conferred on Gagan Narang, an alumni of the college, at the 62nd Republic Day Celebration. The college magazine Vibha was released by the chief guest. Students received awards for being overall toppers in Academics and sports, including me who got gold medals for being the topper in both semesters of my course.

    Faculty Development Programme is organized yearly to update and acquaint the staff members with the changing trends in the field of teaching. The program was conducted in June 2010. Eminent speakers were invited to discuss various issues ranging from teaching, preparing for NAAC to interpersonal relationships. Each Lecture was followed by an interactive session.

    The College organized an Orientation Program for the freshers on their arrival in July 2011. The focus was on being smart in the work place to become an achiever.

    A National Seminar was organized on 21st and 22nd October 2010 to commemorate a decade of PG courses in Computer Science, Microbiology & Biochemistry. The theme of the Seminar was 'Emerging Trends in Science'. Eminent scientists, academicians and experts from industries were invited for talks on the recent trends in science. Dr. Sesikiran. Director - National Institute of Nutrition was the Chief Guest for the inaugural session and Prof. DN Rao from All India Institute of Medical Sciences was the Guest of Honour Prof. H.Savitri from Indian Institute of Science and Professors from Osmania University addressed the students on the recent developments on Science and Technology.

    A total of 280 delegates from all over the country participated in the National Seminar Dr. P. Uma, Vice-Principal was the convener for the National Seminar. Justice Dr. Y. Bhaskar Rao, Chairman was felicitated during the National Seminar on being awarded Hon. Doctorate by Kakatiya University, Warangal.

    The male staff of the College hosted the 100th year celebration of Women's Day on the campus in 2011. The event was marked by speeches fun filled activities and High tea.

    Recreation leads to rejuvenation. Students are encouraged to be actively involved in literary activities like dramatics, quiz, elocution, debate and group discussion. Competition are held in cultural activities like music, dance, painting, sketching drawing, rangoli, face painting, collage, mehendi and graffiti as part of Yuva Mahotsav.

    The 7th edition of the college magazine Vibha reflects the literary skills of the students. Several contributions have been made by the International students. Articles were written in English, Hindi, French and Telugu. The Magazine was released on the Annual Day.

    BVC has a vital and effective placement and career guidance cell (CGPC) that incorporates the objective of linking education to careers in all its planning and execution. It is one of the thrust areas of the college. Many multinational and Indian companies are regular recruiters of the students of our college. It is an organized conjunction of dedicated staff, students and recruiters. The college greatly values its relationship with the companies that recruit the students because it enhances the brand equity of the college.

    Many companies have expressed their desire to strengthen their association with the college. Many companies have expressed appreciation by giving positive feedback about the students. Companies like Cognizant and Delloite have been felicitating meritorious students of our college. There is a quantum jump in the number of students placed in different companies and it will grow further in the years to come.

    Carnival Time in Bhavan's Vivekananda College, Sainikpuri


    The college encourages active participation in extracurricular and co- curricular activities. Bhavanotsav, a mega Techno-Cultural inter-college fete was conducted with the aim of providing opportunities to the students of the twin cities to test their technical skills and exhibit their cultural abilities. It evoked a tremendous response with 700 participants from 83 colleges taking part in the event. Under the Banners of Disha (Commerce), Asymptote (Physical Sciences) greEnergy (Life Sciences), Kalasangam (Languages), various competitions were held like AdVenture, Think o' Brain, Play With Electronics, Wall Illustration and Group Dance.
    bb6 The Xpressionz Club organized the annual fun filled youth festival, Yuva Mahotsav. Students vied with one another in Sketching, Painting, Collage T shirts and Calendar 2011 designing, Master Chef etc.

    On 211August 2010, the first year U.G students were officially welcomed into the colleges fold. The theme of the freshers party was Vistoso - vibrant colors dominated the scene on and off the stage students thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Nearly six months down the lane on on 2/2/11, the college bid farewell to the final year students. The theme of the Seniors send off was "Life Amplified" Organized by the Xpressonz Club, the programme was a big hit with the seniors.
