Assam is a famous religious place in India with numerous religious sites. This land is not only for Hindu religion but the other religion like Muslim, Christian and Buddhist has got equal importance which can be seen by the religious places. One of such place is North Guwahati situated at the north bank of River Brahmaputra. The famous Doul Govinda Temple is located in this place. The temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna. Every year thousands of devotees visit this temple to seek blessings from their God. There are many legends behind the temple. It is believed that Ganga Ram Barua brought the idol of Krishna from Sandhyasar - a place near Nalbari. The main deity of the temple is Lord Krishna but along with it many other idols God and Goddesses are also present in the temple. The activities of the temple are as follows- the doors of the temple opens early in the morning, around 7 o clock. The pujari bathed the idol and performs 'Aarti'. After that it is open for the devotees up to 12 o clock. At 12 o clock the door will be closed to offer Bhog to the God, this is one hour program. Then at 1 o clock again the door will be open for visitors and Prasad is distributed among the devotees. In the evening the Aarti is performed by the pujari.

How to reach the Doul Govinda Temple of Assam


Ferries as well as Steamers are available from Fancy Bazaar Ferry Ghat to Rajaduar.It is the easiest and fastest means, to reach the temple. From Rajaduar, It is a five minutes walk to reach the Temple.
Trekkers are also available from Kharguli, as well as from Adabari and Jalukbari.
