Bongaigaon District of Assam

About Bogaigoan District
Bongaigoan district is an administrative district of Assam that was created due to political and administrative requirements of the particular place. The district covers an area of 2,510 km² and is surrounded by Barpeta in the east, the Brahmaputra in the south and Kokrajhar in the north and west corner. It was declared as a independent district in 29 September, 1989, by the government of Assam with its headquarter at Bogaigoan. The district covers major part of the areas of former Bijni and Sidli estates along with some parts of Eastern Duars. After the establishment of Bongaigaon district, it further divided into three sub divisions, namely Bongaigaon with its headquarter at Bongaigaon, North Salmara with headquarter at Abhayapuri town and Bijni with headquarter at Bijni town.
In the district there are four Assam Legislative Assembly constituencies; Bongaigaon, Bijni, Abhayapuri North, and Abhayapuri South. Creeds and Communities
The original people of the district are Koch-Rajbongchies and Kocharies where as the other communities such as Ravas, Garos, Yogis,Kalitas, Kayasthas and older Muslims also live here with great impact on the socio economic condition of the district. Inspite of having different cultural and religious aspects all the communities live together and take part in all the festivals. 
Places to visit in Bogaigoan District
Jogighopa: It is a historical site situated on the Northern Bank of the Brahmaputra River which is 30 kms away from Abhayapuri town. Due to its historical importance, every year thousands of visitors come to this place.
The Bageswari Hill:It is situated 1 kilometer away from Bongaigaon town and is surrounded by the Birjhora Tea Estate which is the only Tea Garden in the district. There are some ancient temple like Shiva temple , Bageswari temple and Baba Taraknath are situated in the hill. From the hill one can view the entire town of Bogaigoan.
Kakaijana Proposed Wildlife Sanctuary: This proposed wildlife sanctuary is situated at 15 kilometers away from Bogaigoan town. It was declared as a reserved forest on 29 th April 1966 and proposed to be a wildlife sanctuary since 1999.
