Himachal – Boosting up sports activities


To encourage sports activities in Himachal and build up sportsman’s spirit in every individual of the state , the government keeps organising camps and tournaments from time to time. Sportsmen and sportswomen are given special attention, incentives and recognition so that their interest in sports never fades away and they keep making the state and country proud by performing brilliantly.

Sports are given a special importance in Himachal Pradesh. Himachal is a state that believes in all round development of an individual. To fulfill this objective many tournaments and camps are organised at the state and even national level in Himachal. Sports persons are given a great deal of attention so that they are inspired to focus on sports.
On the occasion of Olympics day celebrated on 23rd June, an inter- state program was organised in Kangda, H.P.
To encourage sports in H.P. Number of games were organised and 30 coaches were given appointment letters by the chief guest and present general secretary of the state Olympic association Mr. Anurag Thakur. The appointment of coaches was done to boost up sports activities in the state. All the expenses to be made will be shared between the Olympics association and HPCA.
Along with this the top performing sportsmen of the state will be awarded with the certificate of appreciation . A race was organised on the Olympics day in Kangda which was inaugurated by Mr. Anurag Thakur . Students from all around the region participated in this race. Various other games and matches were also organised.
Many summer camps , disaster management camps , camps on adventure activities are organised each year in various regions of the state like Una, Hamirpur, Dharampur, Kanga etc.to inculcate sportsmanship in the youth of Himachal.
Recently the 13th Shaheed Kalyan Singh memorial tournament which was hosted in the memory of the famous martyr Kalyaan Singh which commenced in Haripurdhar, Sirmaur, H.P from 29th of July till 31st of July , 2012. This three day tournament mainly concentrated on hosting matches for games like Kabaddi and Volleyball .
