Mysore dasara festival is considered to be one of the popular celebrations of India. As the name indicates, this festival is celebrated in Mysore city, Karnataka state, India. Dasara celebrations commence with a pooja performed to Goddess Chamundeshwari at the Chamundi Hills with the presence of the Wodeyar royal couple, and state officials. Throughout the 10 days Dasara festival, Karnataka State Government arranges music, dance, and folk dance performances, flower and doll shows, wrestling and Food and Film festival. The yuva (youth) Dasara, which consists of musical concerts performed by youth icons, is also conducted during Dasara. But this year, in view of the drought, yuva dasra(youth festival) had been dropped. An important attraction of Mysore Dasara 2012 will be the traditional dasara procession commonly known as Jamboo Savari that will be held in different parts of Mysore city. As the name indicates jamboo savari, you may be interested to know its importance. As a part of this procession, the idol of goddess chamundeshwari is placed in a golden howdah on the top of a decorated elephant. The procession including dance groups, music bands, colorful tableaux, royal identities, decorated elephants, horse, camels and folklores starts from Mysore palace and culminates at a place called Bannimantap, where the Banni tree is worshipped.
