Vidyarambham ceremony 2012

Mookambika devi temple is very famous for the vidyarambham ceremony as Kollur is the abode of Goddess Saraswathi. From older times itself people considered that it will be fortunate if a child is able to have his/her vidyarambham through pujaris and pandits of this sacred temple. I think it will be better to mention a few words about the vidyarambham ceremony. It is an occasion when young children are introduced into the world of letters as they take their first step into the world of knowledge. The term vidyarambham denotes knowledge beginning. Majority of the people are aware of the fact that the traditional ceremony of vidyarambham is usually held on the last day of Navaratri festival, ie the Vijayadashami day.

Initially the mantra "Om Hari Sri Ganapataye Namah" is written on sand or in a tray of rice grains. Writing on sand denotes practice while on grains denotes the gathering of knowledge that leads to prosperity. Then the teacher would write the mantra on the child's tongue with gold which invokes the grace of Saraswathi(Goddess of learning), by which one attains the wealth of true knowledge. If you are visiting Mookambika temple for the vidyarambham ceremony, remember that there will be necessary arrangements made by the temple authorities for this traditional ceremony. I will also provide some details of hotels in Kollur which might be helpful for you while planning the tour.
