According to the history, the state of tehri garhwal occupied some areas of the park. They cleared the forest to prevent their kingdom from rohilla invaders. A tribe from a place known terai started living on that land and growing crops. But soon they were thrown out from that place when the british rule came. But later in 1936 they established a park known as hailey national park. Then it was renamed to ramganga national park after the name of the river ramganga. Jim corbett played a significant role in persuading the government to establish the wild life sanctuary. He was successful in influencing the british government to establish this park.
