As per the Supreme Court verdict on the ICSE Best-5 policy, ICSE students' marks of their Xth Std. exams should be considered in the same manner as the Best-5 policy for SSC Students . This policy is for the current academic year 2010-2011. State Education Minister Balasaheb Thorat stated that admissions for Junior Colleges in Maharashtra would begin on Friday July 16th, 2010. ICSE Students appear for exams in 7 subjects. These 7 subjects are divided in 3 groups:
Group I: This group consists of 4 compulsory subjects – English, a second language, environmental studies and social studies (history, civics & geopgraphy).
Group II: This group consists of 10 subjects offered by the ICSE Board, out of which students can choose any 2. The subjects include maths, economics, science (physics, chemistry, and biology), classical languages, foreign contemporary languages, etc.
Group III: This group has many application subjects, such as computer application, cookery, physical education, technical drawing, etc. The student can select any 1 of these subjects. Best 5 Policy Guide Maharashtra
1. As per the Best-Five Policy, the ICSE student's percentage will take into account 5 best scores of 6 subjects from Groups I and II (that is, the 4 compulsory subjects of Group I & the 2 subjects taken by the student from options of Group II). The marks of the subject taken from Group III will not be counted.
2. If the ICSE Student's total percentage of all 7 subjects is higher than the Best-Five percentage, then the total percentage of all the 7 subjects will be considered.
3. ICSE students who are seeking admission to the science stream in a junior college will compulsorily have to take into account the marks they obtain in science and maths in the Best-Five total percentage.
Note: The Bombay High Court will hear a petition today filed by parents of ICSE students which challenges the 25 extra marks given to SSC students for participation in State level sports events.
