Special units of Maharashtra police


The special units of mahapolice include Anti-Corruption Bureau, State Police Wireless, Motor Transport Unit, Protection of Civil Right Cell, Training Directorate, SRPF, Highway Traffic Police, ATS, SID and Criminal Investigation Dept Pune respectively. SID popularly known as State Intelligence Department was formed in 1905 with an aim to deal with the collection of intelligence in Maharashtra state. But the Criminal Investigation Department(CID), is headed by an officer of rank of Additional Director General of Police with headquarters at Pune. As the name indicates Anti-Terrorism Squad(ATS) was created to counter the menace of terrorism in Maharashtra state. I hope every people in Maharashtra may be familiar with the name Maharashtra Traffic Police. I guess you might have an idea regarding it. For your convenience I will provide some information regarding highway police. The Maharashtra Highway Police, previously known as the State Traffic Branch was formed in the year 1993 and is headed by the Additional Director General of Police, traffic who inturn is assisted by 4 Superintendents of Police, 4 Dy. Superintendents of Police, 10 Inspectors, 132 Sub-Inspectors and 1528 policemen respectively. On the otherhand State Police Reserve Force, also known as SRPF was formed on 1948 with an aim to maintain law and order, feeding training units, disaster management, security of vital installations and anti-militancy operations respectively.
