The Sunday, 28th of October 2012 was very special for the citizens of Kolhapur because the former Sri-Lankan Captain, Arjuna Ranatunga 1996 Cricket World Championsvisited the auspicious temple of Shri Mahalaxmi at Kolhapur. The Cricket World cup of 1996 was being won under his captaincy and it was the first time when the Sri-Lankan Cricket qualified the Group Stage since from the start of Cricket World Cup Championship which started in 1975. In the year 1996, the Captaincy of Arjuna Ranatunga was claimed to be the best at that time.

The wife of Arjuna Ranatunga, Samadara, heard that there is an auspicious temple at Kolhapur city and it is of Shri Mahalaxmi called as the Karveer Nivasini Goddess. In this way they both took the blessing of Shri Mahalaxmi by visiting the temple at about 1 pm in the afternoon. Prior to the visit of Arjuna Ranatunga, one person carried a message towards the Association of Mahalaxmi Temple and asked them to make necessary arrangements so that the Legend of Sri-Lanka, Arjuna Ranatunga could visit the temple at ease.

As usually the public too gathered knowing that some one great is going to visit the temple. So they started asking who it is. In this way all the people gathered and the members of Association of Mahalaxmi Temple were shocked because they saw Arjuna Ranatunga coming out of Temple after taking the blessing of Shri Mahalaxmi. At this moment everyone rushed towards Arjuna Ranatunga accompanied with his wife Samadara, and the member of Association of Mahalaxmi Temple, felicitated the former Sri-Lankan Captain and his wife.

Knowing this, Arjuna Ranatunga and his wife too enjoyed the photo session with the Kolhapur Citizens who were present in the Mahalaxmi Temple on the 28th October 2012. Eventually the news paper officials too started interviewing and Arjuna Ranatunga said that the Twenty-20 Format of cricket is only for the purpose of Entertainment.

Talking to media, Arjuna Ranatunga said that it is up to the youngster to what they choose in the game of cricket. The T20 is an entertainment platform and the Test cricket is the education of Cricket. So it is up to the players what they want to choose being a cricketer.
