Early life and childhood of Bengali actress Suchitra Sen


Suchitra Sen was born on 6th April 1981 in Pabna, now in Bangladesh. Her father's name was Karunamoy Dasgupta and mother's name was Indira Dasgupta. She was their fifth child. Her birth name was Roma Dasgupta before she adopted the Suchitra name for the silver screen. Her father was a headmaster of a localschool in Pabna. Her early education was in Pabna, Bangladesh.

Suchitra Sen was married to Dibanath Sen, son of a famous Industrialist Adinath Sen. But in the mid of her rocking career, her husband died. She has one wonderful daughter, MoonMoon Sen, an eminent actress in Bengali Film Industry also. Her granddaughters are Raima sen, who is a leading actrss in Film Industry and Riya Sen, who is also seen in Bollywood Film Industry.

Her debut film was Shesh Kothai, in the year 1952 but it was never released. After that she acted in Sharey Chuattor opposite Uttam Kumar. This film become a box office hit and it was the first released film pairing Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen. From now onwards she does not have to look back. She has been very popular throughout her career as an actress.

Over the years she has delivered superhits Bengali Flims like Shapmochan, Pathe Holo Deri, Saptabadi , Indrani, Sabar Upare, Haar Mana Haar, Nabaraag, Alo Mamar Alo , Bipasha and many more.

Her Hindi Superhits are Devdas, Aandhi, Mamta.

In the year 1955-she won the Best Actress Award for the film Devdas. It was a Hindi Blockbuster.

Her International success came in the year 1963 when she won the Best Actress Award for the Movie Saat Paake Bandha in the Moscow Film Festival. Infact she is the first female to won the International Film Award. She was also a contender of Dada Saheb Phalke Award, but as she refused to go to Delhi for personally receiving the award, it made her deprived from the Award.

She retired from the screen in the year 1978. She avoided the public glaze after the retirement and most of the time is busy with Ramakrishna Mission. She devoted her life to the spiritual space after retirement.

She will always remain the legendary and most glamorous actor in Bengali Film Industry. We love her.
