Early Life of Manna Dey
Manna Dey was born on 1st May 1919. His father's name was Prabodh Chandra Dey and mother's name was Mahamaya Dey. His real name was Prabodh Chandra Dey but he is famous as Manna Dey to all the music lovers. From his childhood days he was attracted to music and it is due to his l Uncle's influence on him. His Uncle was Krishna Chandra Dey who was a well-known singer and actor of New Theatres Company at that time. He took his first music lessons from his Uncle who loved him very much.
Schooling & College Days of Manna Dey
Manna Dey did his early schooling in a small pre-primary school. After that he got a chance in Scottish Church School. He did his college from Scottish Church College and completed his graduation from Vidyasagar College.
Singing Career of Manna Dey
During his school days and college days, Manna Dey used to entertain his classmates by singing different kinds of songs. He got his early singing lessons from his Uncle Krishna Chandra Dey and Ustad Dabir Khan.
In the year 1942 Manna Dey moved to Mumbai with his Uncle Krishna Chandra Dey and there he worked as an assistant to him. Later he started working independently as music director for different successful Hindi Films. In the year 1943 Manna Dey make his first debut as a playback singer in the Hindi movie"Tamanna "and the song became very popular. After that he never have to look back. Manna Dey sang with some of the renowned singers, composers and music directors of Indian Film Industry.

Manna Dey has been honored with Padma Shri and Padma Bhusan Awards.
For many years he has also received National Film Awardfor Best Plackback singer.
In 2001 he received the Anandalok Lifetime Award.

Personal Life of Manna Dey
In the year 1853 Manna Dey married Sulochana Kumaran, who is from Kerela.
They have two sons, Arijit Dey and Abhijit Dey. He still attends many musical programs and sung some of his greatest hits.
On 1st May 2011 he will turn 92. We all wish that he will live more than 100 yrs.
