About Gouri Sen of West Bengal


Gouri Sen was one of the best Legendary personalities in West Bengal. He was born in 18th century in Bally More of Hooghly which is known as Bandel Church in now a days. The caste of Gouri Sen was Subarna Banik which means the people who were engaged in business. So Gouri Sen was a good business man of West Bengal in that time. So he earned lots of money by his hard work. The main thing of Gouri Sen was he gave money to the people who were needed for it. So many Bengali people say that "lagey taka debey Gouri Sen" which means if any person is required money then Gouri Sen will give it. He was also constructed the Gourishankar Shiva temple at Boral Lane of Hooghly which was his birth place. So he was really a Legend of West Bengal.

About Hari Ghosh of West Bengal


Hari Ghosh was born in the year 1806. He was the dewan of Munger fort of British East India Company. he knew many languages such as : Bengali, Persian and English etc. After his retirement he lived in Kolkata. He was a good social worker. He gave food and house to live for the poor students who came to Kolkata for higher studies. Many people of West engal have came to him for Dinner and discussions about the problems of West Bengal people. So the gathering is called as Hari Ghosher goal which means the cattle shed of Hari Ghosh.

About Banamali Sarkar of West Bengal


Banamali Sarkar was a good person of Bengal who was the first dewan to the resident at Patna and was the deputy trader to the British East India Company. He had built a house for living of the poor people of West Bengal in the perid of 1740 to 1750.

About Gobindram Mitter of West Bengal


Gobindram Mitter was the first officer under British Rule. He had built a temple of goddess Kali on the banks of the river Ganges at Kumortuli in the year of 1725. The height of this temple is 165 feet and the other name of this temple is Pagoda. He was a very rich person and he was very powerful officer even if his boss Holwell could not say a word to him.

About Umichand of West Bengal


The other name of Umichand was Amir Chand. He was a very rich Sikh businessman. He came from Amritsar to Kolkata for business. He played the major role for establishing the British East India Company. He gave all his property to the poor people at the time of his death. So Umichand was known as the Rothschild of his day.

About Huzoorimal of West Bengal


Huzoorimal was the best friend of Amir Chand. He was also a good Businessman of West Bengal. He had built a bathing ghat at nearer the Howrah Bridge which is known as Baitakkhana in local language. He had also made the Armenian church and a ghat near the Kali temple of West Bengal or known as Kalighat.
