Location of Junput


Junput is a beautiful beach resort located in Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal. Junput is 40km away from another beach resort Digha and 9km from Contai. Junput is mainly used by the State Government Fisheries Department as a study center for marine biology, which includes sea fish research, shark oil extraction and brackish water fish cultivation and research.

How to reach Junput


By Rail
Contai railway station is the nearest railway station to Junput. One can easily avail any Digha bound train from Howrah Station or Sharmilar Station in Kolkata to reach Contai rail station. From there you can get any trekker, or bus or car to reach Junput.
By Road
You can also drive to Contai or can hire a car to reach Contai and from there take a left turn to reach Junput.
One can also catch a tourist luxury bus from Esplanade, Kolkata to reach Digha and can stay there for 1-2 days and from there can go to Junput. Regular buses ply from Digha to Junput.

Where to stay in Junput


There are 4- 5 hotels to stay in Junput but they are very nice.
You can stay in Inspection Bungalow, which is under Superintendent of Fisheries, Junput.
The best one to stay here is the Junput Resort. Mostly all the rooms are sea facing and food served is also very good. But it is advisable to do the bookings in advance.

Best time to visit Junput ids during the months of October to March. The weather at that time remains very much pleasant there.

What to See in Junput


Calm sea and Beautiful beach
The sea of Junput is very much calm and quiet and the beach is also not very much crowded. On the side of the beach one will find lines of casuarinas trees and just walk in the sea beach and enjoy the cool breeze. The sea beach is very much clean and you can enjoy there by walking and having fresh coconut water. Enjoy the sunrise and sunset there.

Dariapur Lighthouse
Dariapur Lighthouse is situated very near to Junput sea beach and is a much visit place. This lighthouse was built during 20th Century and is somewhat 75m high.

KapalKundala Mandir
Kapalkundala temple is a renowned Kali Temple located nearly half a kilometer away from Junput resort. This temple has a close association with the novel written in same name by renowned novelist Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay.

Museum in Junput
One can also visit the Museum in Junput, which is under the Fishery Department of West Bengal. This museum houses carcasses of rare species of fishes, different kinds of snakes, skeletons of different wild animals.
