Murgir Jhol-Cooked in Bengali Style

Ingredients required for preparing Murgir Jhol


500 gms Chicken (cut into medium sized pieces)
3 Medium Sized Potatoes
1 Bay Leaf
1 Large Onion (nicely chopped)
2 tablespoon Ginger Garlic paste
½ tablespoon Red Chilli Powder
½ tablespoon Turmeric Powder
1 Medium sized Tomato
½ tablespoon Garam Masala
Oil as required
Salt to taste

Method of Preparation of Murgir Jhol


Clean and wash the chicken pieces properly
Cut the tomato into 6 cubes.
Cut the Potatoes into halves.
Heat oil in a frying pan.
Fry the potato halves till they are golden brown.
Keep them aside.
To the same oil add the bay leaf.
Now add the chopped onion and fry till the onions are dark brown in color.
Now add the ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder and red chilli powder.
Now add the tomatoes and a pinch of salt and fry them for 1 min.
Pour ½ cup of water and stir it properly for few mins.
As soon as oil starts to separate add 2 cups of water.
Now add the chicken pieces and stir it continuously.
Now add the fried potatoes to it.
Cover it with lid and bring it to boil until the chicken is soft and done.
When it is almost done check the salt.
Add a pinch of garam masala from top and mix well for a min.
Serve it hot with steaming hot rice or pulao.
