Bengali Fesivals Schedule 2012-2013


This articles provides a detailed information of all the festivals' schedule. Durga Puja and other festivals dates are provided here for the year 2012-2013. Durga Puja is a very famous Hindu festival celebrate all over India.


Mahalaya: Mahalaya 2012 will take place on 15th October, Monday. It marks the arrival of Goddess Durga on Earth. It is the initiation of Durga Puja.

  • Panchami will be celebrated on 19th October 2012, Friday

  • Shashthi will be celebrated on 20th October 2012, Saturday

  • Saptami will be celebrated on 21st October 2012, Sunday

  • Ashtami will be celebrated on 22nd October 2012, Monday

  • Nabami will be celebrated on 23rd October 2012, Tuesday

  • Dashami will be celebrated on 24th October 2012, Wednesday




Lakshmi Puja will be celebrated on 29th October 2012, Monday. During this Puja, Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped on a full moon day. She is one of the daughters of Devi Durga, who symbolizes wealth, peace and prosperity. Her bearer is white owl.


Kali Puja will be celebrated on 13th November 2012, Tuesday. The puja rituals are performed at midnight on the day of new moon. Every household is decorated with burning candles. Both children and adults enjoy bursting various kinds of firecrackers.


Bhai Phota will be celebrated on 15th November 2012, Thursday. This day is meant for brothers and sisters. The sisters keep a fast, invites her brother to her home and applies "fota" on his forehead. Gifts are exchanged from both sides. The sisters pray for her brother's safety and well-being.


Saraswati Puja will be celebrated on 15th February 2013, Friday. This puja is celebrated by all students. Goddess Saraswati is the Goddess of Learning.


Dol Purnima will be celebrated on 27th March 2013, Wednesday. It is the festival of colours. People celebrate with friends and relatives by applying "aabir" and throwing coloured water on each other.
