India is the only country in the world producing different varieties of silk sarees. India produces about 15,000tone of raw silk every year. Mulberry silk constitutes about 91% of the total silk produced in India.

In India cross breeds of silkworms are also produced for rearing. In India Mulbery Silk Sarees are extensively reared in Karnataka, Andhar Pradesh, Tamilnadu, West Bengal UP, and Jammu and Kashmir.
